Why did you choose SHA?
I chose SHA because I thought making my career in the hospitality industry would be where I would be the happiest and I am loving every moment working in this industry.
What are some of your favorite BU memories?
I don’t have one in particular but it all seems to link back somehow to SHA.
What was your first full-time job? How did you end up in your current position?
My first full time job is being a F&B Management Trainee for The Excelsior, Hong Kong which is under the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. I got this position by researching a following through with the HR personnel at the hotel.
Please describe your current role. How did your SHA education impact your career?
Currently I work in my first rotation which is focused on developing my operational skills working in a restaurant. I think my SHA education has helped me put the theoretical tools I learned in the classroom and apply it practically.
Any advice for current and prospective students?
Network, get yourself out there. This industry is smaller than it seems. Being well connected in one geographic area branches out worldwide especially with the global expansion of our industry. Get as much experience as possible as well because employers are definitely looking for people with a certain mindset and that is only developed through work experience. Especially for the hospitality industry some things can only be learned through on-the-job experience.
