George Berkowitz

George Berkowitz is founder and chairman of Legal Sea Foods, Inc. A World War II veteran who studied at Dartmouth College and completed the Owner/President Management program at Harvard Business School, Mr. Berkowitz has been a guest lecturer at Boston University, Cornell University, Florida International University, Bryant College, Northeastern University, and the University of Hawaii. In addition, he has chaired and participated in seafood conferences nationwide. He has received numerous institutional awards, including City of Peace (1989), Restaurant Business Magazine's Restaurant Business Leadership award (1990), Massachusetts Restaurant Association Restauranteur of the Year (1993), and Food Arts magazine's Silver Spoon Award (1994). He also co-authored, with food expert Jane Doerfer, The Legal Sea Foods Cookbook. Mr. Berkowitz holds several board of trustee positions and is active in the Boston Harbor Association, the Coastal Zone Management, the New England Fisheries Development Association, and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.
