Gastronomy Program Prize

Gastronomy Program Prize/Food in the City Conference, Boston University, February 24 and 25th, 2012

Boston University Conference “Food and the City” is pleased to welcome submissions for the Gastronomy Program Prize. The prize, sponsored by the Gastronomy Program at Boston University’s Metropolitan College, is awarded for a paper written by a graduate student that offers innovative and interdisciplinary scholarship on topics related to the history of food in urban landscapes.

These topics should emphasize historical themes and could include:

  1. The evolution of food systems in cities in colonial empires
  2. Sanitation and food safety in cities
  3. Urban food cultures
  4. Food practices and technologies within cities

The author must be enrolled as a graduate student at the time of submission, and the paper cannot be in press or published at the time of submission (it can be under review).

The word count should be 5000-7000.  The winner of the prize will be announced at the Food and the City Conference at Boston University to be held on February 24th and 25th, 2012. The winner will receive $350.
