Prof. McCann, Kristen Carey, and Dima Hurlbut to Present at Rocky Mountain Workshop on African History

History Chair Prof. James McCann and two Ph.D. candidates, Kristen Carey and Dima Hurlbut, will present work at the first Rocky Mountain Workshop on African History in Salt Lake City on August 10th, 2019. Kristen will give a paper, “Counting the Nation: Population Policy and the Formation of the Tanzanian Citizen” and Dima will give a paper on “The Expansion of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Southeastern Nigeria, 1969-1978.” McCann will offer a paper on his new project: “A Fish Story: Global Harbingers and Human Perfidity in the Upper Nile Watershed.” Other participants in the SLC Workshop will come from Brigham Young University, University of California, Montana State University, University of Wisconsin, University of Reading (UK), University of Utah, University of Arizona, and Georgetown University. Prof. McCann will on September 4 be official “Opponent” (external examiner) for a Ph.D. dissertation at Wageningen University (Netherlands) where he will also connect with Wageningen-based scholars on his longer range Nile waters project.
