Prof. Nolan Appointed to Committee on Brown Military Collection, Gives Lectures on New Book

Professor Cathal Nolan has accepted an invitation to serve a three-year term on the Committee of Management at the Anne S. K. Brown Military Collection at Brown University. In May Nolan was invited to give a lecture on his newest book The Allure of Battle: A History of How Wars Have Been Won and Lost to the Collection’s Board of Trustees.

Following the release of the book, Nolan has given lectures at multiple universities and institutions.

  • Invited lecture on The Allure of Battle at the Center for Military and Diplomatic History, Foreign Policy Initiative, Washington, D.C., April 11th, 2017.
  • Live interview (available to stream here) on the causes of war for the Bradley Jay Show on WBZ Newsradio Boston, broadcast nationally on the CBS Radio Network on May 11th, 2017.
  • Invited talk to Congressional Committee members on long-term strategic thinking vs. short-term action, Hollingsworth Congressional Book Club, Capital Hill Club, Washington, D.C., June 13th, 2017.
  • Conference paper on “The Allure of Battle and Japanese Imperialism” at the East Asian Studies Annual Conference at Hebrew University, June 18th, 2017.
  • Invited lecture on “Winning and Losing Wars” at the Begin-Sadat Center at Bar-Ilan University, June 21st, 2017.
  • Invited lecture on “Attrition in Modern Warfare” at the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas on July 13th, 2017.
  • Lecture on The Allure of Battle to the Alumni Association of the National Intelligence University at the USCG Station All Hands Club in Boston, Oct 5th, 2017.
