History:

In 1995, Kol Echad's founders, Shira Lipsky and Jack Kustanowitz, knew they wanted to be part of the Jewish A Cappella rage that was spreading to college campuses across the country. When they founded Kol Echad, Hebrew for "One Voice," the group had nine enthusiastic members. Now, the group has grown in both size and in popularity. In 2007, Kol Echad celebrated 12 years of Jewish a cappella excellence with a Reunion Concert. Click here for a look back at that special night...

Performing:

Over the past 13 years, Kol Echad has established itself as one of the best Jewish A Cappella groups in Boston and nationwide. The group is a mainstay at synagogues throughout the Northeast, and often sings at universities including Harvard, Brandeis, Rutgers, and Tufts. Once a year, Kol Echad also takes a week-long Tour, bringing Jewish A Cappella to locations such as Toronto, Canada, Arizona, and Los Angeles, CA (Click here for a complete KE Tour history). One of the highlights of Kol Echad's year is the Jewish Collegiate Festival for the Performing Arts in New York City, where they have been a featured performer every year that the group has existed.

Recordings:

In the Fall of 2007, Kol Echad released their newest CD, "Shesh Besh", recorded and produced at Bristol Studios in Boston in the Spring of 2007. This 14-track album features the best of KE's 2005-2007 repertoire, and is the 6th of their hit discography. Kol Echad's first CD, entitled "Stam," was released in 1995 and proved to be a huge hit in the group's first and second years. Two huge follow-ups were released after the success of "Stam": 2000's "Oogah," and 2001's "Tchotchke". By 2005, Kol Echad's dedication and creativity had earned them a reputation as one of the best recorded Jewish A Cappella groups in the country, as seen on their 2003 release, "Songs in the Key of Oy!", and their 2005 release "Meshuga".
