Artist Residency: In the Beginning
The pictures in this first section follow painter Harriet Finck, Artist-In-Residence, through the creation of her installation "Song of Songs" featured in the exhibition "Visual Midrash: Text As Form." As part of her residency, Harriet was required to create a significant work of art during her time with us here at the Rubin-Frankel Gallery. Over the course of two and a half weeks, she transformed the gallery into a painting studio and worked daily, exposed through glass doors to swarms of curious students and visitors. After rolling out massive sheets of paper, Harriet began first to paint--then to cut--and, for the first time in her artistic career, create 3-dimensional forms mimicking the life and energy of her works on paper.
