Welcome the World to Your Table!
In an effort to raise money for the orphan survivors of the Rwandan Genocide of 1994, Ksenya Khinchuk and the 1998 cohort of Fellows collected their family recipes into a unique, international cookbook. Two decades later, the mission continues as Rwanda’s quality of healthcare has improved is still low; there is a shortage of qualified medical professionals, and many medicines are in short supply or unavailable. HIV/AIDS in Rwanda is classified by the World Health Organization as a generalized epidemic; it produces more orphans, many of which are themselves HIV-positive.
To date, over $30,000 has been raised through sales of the cookbook, with all revenues being donated to a charity that specializes in providing HIV-positive orphans with healthcare, education, and vocational training.
Beautifully designed and illustrated, The World Family Cookbook brings together more than 100 recipes from nearly as many countries, all of which can be made with readily available ingredients. Please check out the two, sample recipes pasted below.
Please your palate as you support a good cause!
“The World Family Cookbook is a product of a global effort to generate awareness, help, and support for some of the many children left to fend for themselves in the aftermath of war in Africa. Without parents to guide them, government to protect them, and often lacking the basic educational skills necessary for survival, these courageous children are engaged in an epic struggle to sustain what remains of their families. While we may not be able to respond to all of their needs, we can all do something to help. I urge you to embrace the treasures contained in The World Family Cookbook and I pray that you will encourage your friends to purchase a copy of this historic publication.”
