Dr. Szelag is Advisor to the Minister of Finance of Poland. Previously, he worked in the National Bank of Poland as Head of the European Integration Division and completed his in-service training in the European Commission in Brussels. In the Ministry, Dr. Szelag is responsible for financial services and integration of financial markets within the EU (banking sector, supervision, prudential regulations), crisis management, financial stability, issues related to the euro and Economic and Monetary Union (EMU). He is the representative of the Polish Government in the European Banking Committee (former Banking Advisory Committee), and in the Public Administration Network (dealing with practical preparations of the new EU Member States for their future adoption of the euro).
During the last two years, Dr. Szelag has participated in all works at the EU level (working groups of the European Commission / Council of the EU) related to the implementation of the New Basel Capital Accord (Basel 2 / CRD). He was also the Country Coordinator of some IMF’s initiatives (Financial Soundness Indicators), and participated in works of the OECD Committee on Financial Markets.
In 2003, Mr. Szelag obtained his Ph.D. in economics from Warsaw School of Economics. For the last seven years, he has held many lectures at Warsaw School of Economics, University of Warsaw, and Polish Academy of Science. He is the author of numerous articles, working papers and books on European integration, economics and finance.
During his Humphrey Fellowship year, Dr. Szelag plans to broaden his knowledge about the U.S. economic and financial system, US-EU relations, international economics, as well as enhance his skills in management and leadership. |
