Erika Nárez Melgoza

MEXICO

Ms. Erika Nárez Melgoza is an English Teacher of over 300 students at the College of Scientific and Technological Studies of the State of Michoacán (CECYTEM). She has been recognized for supporting superlative student learning outcomes through her own instruction and also for her successful introduction of blended learning using an online educational platform that engages students, parents, teachers, and administrators. She further serves as president of the local chapter of her state English-language teachers’ association, and in that role organizes and leads a variety of teacher professional development initiatives.

Ms. Melgoza holds a Master’s degree (EdM) in Technology Education from the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo and a Bachelor’s degree in English Language Instruction from the Autonomous Mexico State University. She also holds certifications in Professional Development for English Teachers from Arizona State University and in Teaching Skills at the High School Level from the National University of Education Sciences (UPN).

During her Fellowship year, Ms. Melgoza plans to develop her expertise in all aspects of English language instruction and as a trainer of other teachers.  She will undertake a program of advanced study that includes courses in teacher training, curriculum design, and pedagogy, and she also hopes to undertake a professional affiliation at an organization where she can examine and participate in leading approaches to Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) currently practiced in the U.S. Following her return to México, she plans to support improvement in TESOL instruction across the country through ongoing work in curriculum and teacher professional development.
