Beginning
his career in the civil service in 1996, Mr. Situmbeko
joined the National Commission for Development Planning
in the Population in Development Department. He worked
in population and development programs with cooperating
partners such as the United Nations Population Fund
(UNFPA) and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
He worked in the Planning and Economic Management Department
of the Ministry of Finance and National Planning as
a Senior Economist. He was a team player in the preparation
of Zambia's Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP)
and worked actively in economic management with cooperating
partners such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF)
and the World Bank. In 2002, he moved to Zambia's central
bank, The Bank of Zambia, in the Financial Markets Department
as an Economist in monetary policy implementation. In
2003, he began to focus on monetary operations specifically
in foreign exchange trading which was his last assignment
before joining the Humphrey Fellowship Program.
Mr.
Situmbeko holds a bachelor of arts in Economics (1996)
from the University of Zambia and a Master of Arts in
Economics (1998) from the University of Nairobi in Kenya.
He maintains an active research interest in poverty
reduction (under the African Economic Research Consortium
or AERC), public expenditure management, and public
debt.
During
his Humphrey year at Boston University, Mr. Situmbeko
will focus his attention in the area of finance with
the aim of developing expertise in financial markets,
and in products and regulations governing these markets.
He intends to use his experience in the United States
to eventually forge a career in the financial industry
in Zambia.
