Lishala C. Situmbeko

Zambia

Beginning his career in the civil service in 1996, Mr. Situmbeko joined the National Commission for Development Planning in the Population in Development Department. He worked in population and development programs with cooperating partners such as the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). He worked in the Planning and Economic Management Department of the Ministry of Finance and National Planning as a Senior Economist. He was a team player in the preparation of Zambia's Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP) and worked actively in economic management with cooperating partners such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. In 2002, he moved to Zambia's central bank, The Bank of Zambia, in the Financial Markets Department as an Economist in monetary policy implementation. In 2003, he began to focus on monetary operations specifically in foreign exchange trading which was his last assignment before joining the Humphrey Fellowship Program.

Mr. Situmbeko holds a bachelor of arts in Economics (1996) from the University of Zambia and a Master of Arts in Economics (1998) from the University of Nairobi in Kenya. He maintains an active research interest in poverty reduction (under the African Economic Research Consortium or AERC), public expenditure management, and public debt.

During his Humphrey year at Boston University, Mr. Situmbeko will focus his attention in the area of finance with the aim of developing expertise in financial markets, and in products and regulations governing these markets. He intends to use his experience in the United States to eventually forge a career in the financial industry in Zambia.
