Alan Shatanov

Kazakhstan


Before joining the Humphrey Program, Mr. Shatanov worked for ten years in different divisions of the National Bank of Kazakhstan and acted as the bank’s representative in the State Government and the Parliament. In 2007, Mr. Shatanov was appointed Director of the Internal Audit Department. As a representative of the National Bank, he participated in the elaboration of the state budgets, as well as various law projects such as the Tax Code, the Budget Code, and many others.

Mr. Shatanov has bachelor degrees in economics from Kazakh State Academy of Management and in Law from the Higher School of Law. He also holds an MBA in finance and accounting from Kazakhstan Institute of Management, Economics and Strategic Research and is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors. Together with a group of experts in the field, he authored a book entitled The Banking System of Kazakhstan After Ten Years of Independence.

During his Humphrey year Mr. Shatanov plans to explore the U.S. banking system and broaden his knowledge of financial law, paying special attention to organizing internal audit and risk management in banks. This experience will deepen his knowledge and contribute to the development of banking in Kazakhstan.
