Mr. Sompasong Phommasane has been working for the Banking Operations Department at the Bank of the Lao PDR since 2005. In January 2008, the Deputy Standing Prime Minister appointed Mr. Phommasane as one of ten members of the Lao Securities Market Establishment Committee at the Bank of the Lao PDR. His responsibilities include drafting decrees, rules and regulations pertaining to securities and the securities market; coordinating and collaborating with Korean Exchange, Inc. (counterparts in preparation of a feasibility study for the establishment of a Laos Stock Market); and conducting studies on topics related to securities and the securities market. Previously, Mr. Phommasane was the Deputy Head of the Financial Market Division, where he was responsible for conducting studies on the development of government securities market, including rules and regulations.

Mr. Phommasane holds a graduate diploma in educational studies from the Western University of Australia (2001), and an MBA in finance from the International University of Japan (2005).

During his Humphrey year, Mr. Phommasane will focus on rules and regulations concerning securities and securities markets, firm valuation, and initial public offerings. He will also enhance his knowledge of securities regulatory organizations, and mutual funds.
