Zahid Hussain

Pakistan


Zahid Hussain is the director of the Specific English Language & Computer Center (SELC) and the Principal of the Sir Syed School in Turbat Kech, Balochistan, Pakistan. In 1999, he formed Mistag Development Organization (MDO), which trained 352 female school teachers in the Professional Development of Educators and Administrators program in the Kech District. MDO worked with Research Triangle Institute International through the Education Reform Assistance Program funded by USAID. Through organizations like SELC and MDO, Mr. Hussain has been instrumental in increasing women’s literacy in the region.

In 1997, Mr. Hussain earned a bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering from Dawood College of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, Pakistan. He also received a diploma in English language from the Pak-American Cultural Center (PACC) in Karachi, Pakistan, in 1997.

During Mr. Hussain’s Humphrey Fellowship, he plans to enhance his Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) skills and hopes to find new and creative ways to increase the educational opportunities for women in his local region of Pakistan. He is also eager to work with private schools and English language institutes to enhance his professional pedagogical and managerial skills.
