Ms. Laura Flores, professor of English Language and Literature in the English Department of the National Teacher Education Institute since 1995, has also served as Director of English Studies at the Kennedy School in Uruguay since 1997 and professor of English Language and Literature at the School of Humanities, University of Montevideo since 1999.
Ms. Flores has studied and taught English language literature to future English language teachers. She participated in the Curriculum Design of English Language and Literature at the National Teacher Education Institute, and was in charge of designing the English Curriculum for the Kennedy School and at the School of Education and Humanities at the University of Montevideo.
She is currently finishing her master’s dissertation in English on Anglo-American Literature, exploring discourse analysis, pragmatics, and systemic functional grammar, all of which are new concepts in her professional field.
During her Humphrey year Ms. Flores expects to develop the outline of a full educational curriculum for teaching English, based on Discourse Analysis and Systemic Functional Linguistics in Uruguay. This innovative approach is designed to advance childhood and adolescent education as well as eventually change the requirements of teacher education.
