Sarah Namuli-Tamale

Uganda

Since 1999, Sarah Namuli-Tamale has been working as an Assistant Commissioner of Business Education with the Ministry of Education and Sports. She currently works in the department of Business, Technical Vocational Education and Training (BTVET).

Ms. Namuli-Tamale is specifically responsible for improving business education in the country. She initiates policies, strategies, programs, and projects—especially for specialized institutions. She also coordinates, monitors, and oversees the implementation of business education policies.  She represents the ministry on four governing councils of tertiary institutions. Ms. Namuli-Tamale establishes and maintains links with the private sector and other stakeholders in business education. Due to this responsibility, she steered the process of establishing the Uganda Vocational Qualifications Framework, which recognizes competence-based education and training.  She is now developing ways of incorporating entrepreneurship into BTVET programs.

Sarah Namuli-Tamale has a Bachelor of Science in education from Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, and an MBA specializing in small business and entrepreneurship management from the Cardiff Business School at the University of Wales in the UK. She also has a master’s degree in information technology and management from the Maastricht School of Management in the Netherlands.

During her Humphrey year, Sarah Namuli-Tamale intends to explore the U.S. educational system, especially the structural framework of entrepreneurship programs. She hopes to utilize these insights to initiate reforms in business and entrepreneurship education in Uganda.
