Ms. Duenas has been working for ten years in the Securities Commission of El Salvador in different capacities, most recently as Director of the Market Regulation and Studies Department. As Director, she was responsible for assessing El Salvador’s compliance to the International Organization of Securities Commission (IOSCO) principles, as well as promoting changes to meet international standards for securities regulation. Along with developing strategies to improve stock market practices, Ms. Duenas coordinated the technical assistance received from various international organizations and was in charge of the international relationship of her office. She was also a member of the regional capital market committee for more than five years.
Ms. Duenas has a master’s degree in management and public policy from which she graduated with honors, from the University of Chile, and a public accountant bachelor's degree from the University of El Salvador.
During her Humphrey year, Ms. Duenas will broaden her knowledge of financial products that are not trading in El Salvador, as well as expand her expertise in the organization and operation of stock brokers and investment companies, and the regulation and supervision of the U.S. stock market. She intends to use her fellowship experience to help her country establish a regional capital market, implement risk-based supervision of the stock market, and help in the consolidation of the new financial supervision authority, which is scheduled to open in 2008. |
