Luc Can

Vietnam

Before joining the Humphrey Program, Dr. Luc Can had a long and distinguished career with the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV). He worked at BIDV for more than 10 years, starting as a foreign credit officer, then becoming Deputy Head of International Banking, followed by Head of Securities, and finally Director and Head of International Banking.  As Director, his main responsibilities included managing the establishment, maintenance, and development of international banking relationships with foreign banks and international financial institutions; managing the risk analysis of foreign counterparts to determine transaction limits; and being responsible for the bank’s overseas operations.

Dr. Can holds an MBA (Finance) and a DBA (Banking) from Monash University, Australia. He has received numerous awards, including certificates of merit for outstanding academic performance in his university and MBA studies and for his management role in international banking. He has published a number of articles, including two papers published in the Vietnam Finance and Money Review (2002) on internet banking and bank performance evaluation, and a recent paper on banking efficiency in China Economic Review (forthcoming).

During his Humphrey year at Boston University, Dr. Can wishes to broaden his knowledge and expertise in strategic planning and risk management in banking. His experience here will not only be an asset to his future career, but will contribute to the development of the banking system in Vietnam.
