Central Administration

President

The President is the official head of the University. He has general oversight of all academic work, and he is Chairman of all faculties; he also oversees the Boston University Academy.

University Provost

The University Provost is the University's chief academic officer with particular responsibilities for the University's academic programs, personnel, resources, and support services. The primary duty of the Provost is to ensure the quality of education and research at all degree levels. The Provost has direct oversight of the fourteen Schools and colleges on the Charles River Campus, as well as continuing and extended education, the University library system and Special Collections, international education, military education, the Center for English Language and Orientation Programs, the Environmental Health and Safety office, and the offices responsible for securing external funding for research — Sponsored Programs and the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program.

Provost of the Medical Campus

The Provost of the Medical Campus is responsible for the overall operation of the Boston University Medical Campus; the University's role in the Boston Medical Center; and the health-related schools located on the Medical Campus: the School of Medicine, the Goldman School of Dental Medicine, and the School of Public Health.

Executive Vice President

The Executive Vice President is the chief administrative officer and has overall responsibility for the University's administrative, business, operations, financial affairs units, and the athletics and recreation programs. The Executive Vice President also plays the lead role in long-range campus planning and development.

Senior Vice President

The Senior Vice President directly supervises the departments of Planning, Budgeting and Information, Personnel, Equal Opportunity, Family Resources, the Faculty/Staff Assistance Program, the University Police, Risk Management, Occupational Health Center, and Student Health Services all located on the Charles River Campus; in addition, the Senior Vice President oversees the business and administrative functions of the Boston University Medical Campus. The Senior Vice President is responsible for the execution of University-wide campus planning and the supervision of major construction projects.

Vice President for Planning, Budgeting, and Information

Reporting to the Vice President for Planning, Budgeting and Information are the Offices of Analytical Services, the Budget, and Campus Mail Services. The Vice President is responsible for the preparation and analysis of statistical reports to support long-range institutional planning; the development and preparation of the University budget submitted for Trustee vote, and maintenance of the approved budget; and the completion of institutional data surveys submitted to external populations such as  the federal government, national college guide publications, and educational associations.

Vice President for Government and Community Affairs

The Vice President for Government and Community Affairs is responsible for the coordination and administration of the functions of state relations, city relations, and community relations for the University.

Vice President and General Counsel

The Vice President and General Counsel is directly responsible for the supervision and handling of the University's legal affairs, both internally (by the Office of General Counsel) and by outside counsel, including litigation, transactional matters, and compliance with government regulations.

Vice President for Auxiliary Services

The Vice President for Auxiliary Services has responsibility for the University's physical plant, facilities planning and space management, student housing, purchasing, rental property management, and auxiliary services including dining services, conference services, parking, vending, and the University's bookstores and convenience stores.

Vice President for Financial Affairs and Treasurer

The Vice President for Financial Affairs and Treasurer has overall responsibility for the University's financial operations, including the treasury, accounting, internal audit, real estate acquisitions, leasing functions, equipment management, and administration of the University's investments and endowment.

Vice President for Enrollment and Student Affairs

The Vice President for Enrollment and Student Affairs has direct responsibility for all areas of enrollment, including the Offices of Admissions, Enrollment Planning and Retention, Enrollment Services Operations, Financial Assistance, International Admissions, Student Employment, and the University Registrar. The Vice President for Enrollment and Student Affairs also has overall responsibility for the departments that directly impact the quality of student life at Boston University, including the Offices of the Dean of Students, Career Services, Disability Services, Judicial Affairs and Student Safety Programs, Multicultural Affairs, Orientation and Off-Campus Services, Residence Life, and Student Activities; the Counseling and Wellness, Education Resource and Howard Thurman Centers; and the George Sherman Union.

Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations

The Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations is responsible for increasing the base of support for University programs and activities from among its external constituencies: current and prospective donors, alumni, the local community, and the general public. Such support takes the form of gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations. The Vice President is also responsible for building and maintaining relationships between the University and its some 250,000 alumni worldwide. The Vice President also has overarching responsibility for the offices of University Relations and All-University Functions.

Vice President for Marketing and Communications

The Vice President for Marketing and Communications is the chief branding officer for Boston University, responsible for communications with major constituencies, such as students, faculty/staff, parents, alumni, media, and the general public. Reporting to the Vice President are the Offices of Strategic Communications, Creative Services, Campus Information and Visitor Relations, Boston University Productions, the Media Group, Public Relations, and BU Today. Vice President for Information Systems and Technology

The Vice President for Information Systems and Technology is responsible for the development and maintenance of the University's academic and administrative computing systems, electronic communications, and the University's presence on the world Wide Web. Reporting to the Vice President are the Offices of Information Technology, Telecommunications, and University Information Systems. The Vice President also has operational responsibility for the University-owned computer retail store.
