Metropolitan College and Extended Education
The mission of Metropolitan College (MET) and Extended Education is to broaden the reach of Boston University by offering rigorous, innovative, student-centered programs that are:
- Founded on excellence in teaching and applied research
- Available in the evenings, on weekends, and online
- Accessible to a wide range of students
- Delivered at locations such as suburban, corporate, and international sites
- Responsive to the needs of both individuals and industries
- Utilizing and developing state-of-the-art teaching technologies
Metropolitan College
MET delivers classroom-based programs in the evening and on weekends at a variety of locations including the Charles River Campus; Tyngsboro, Massachusetts; select military bases in Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Virginia; and Brussels, Belgium. In addition, the College offers several online courses, degrees, and certificates, and oversees the Prison Education Program at three regional correctional sites.
In total, MET has over sixty undergraduate and graduate programs.
MET is also home to non-credit professional programs delivered through the Center for Professional Education, and the Office of Lifelong Learning, which administers seminars and training in food, wine, and the arts, in addition to the Evergreen program for seniors and the Cooking Up Culture program for children.
Other Extended Education Units
BU Global delivers academic and professional training programs to international students and organizations in collaboration with Schools and Colleges throughout the University, including graduate diploma programs in information security, hospitality and tourism management, banking and financial services, and project management.
The Office of Distance Education is the University’s single point of development, coordination, and implementation of online learning programs. In collaboration with faculty from Schools and Colleges throughout the University, Distance Education translates the quality of University classroom programs to online formats.
Sargent Center for Outdoor Education is an environmental and experiential learning center in New Hampshire’s Monadnock region that delivers teambuilding and leadership courses and environmental education programs. Its 700-acre site also serves as a facility for camping programs, retreats, and conferences.
Summer Term coordinates the University’s summer academic programming, offering over 600 courses in 70 subjects annually to 7,000 high school, college, and professional students.
