Chelsea-Boston University Project

In June 1989, Boston University entered into a unique partnership agreement with the Chelsea Public Schools to manage the school district until June, 1998. The Partnership's central purpose is to improve the schools in Chelsea, one of the poorest cities in Massachusetts.

The Partnership provides the students and the families of Chelsea with the means for scholastic achievement and sets high academic standards. The Boston University/Chelsea Management Team is responsible for daily operations of the district, while the Chelsea school system remains a public institution.

The partnership agreement was renewed for a second time in June 2002 and now runs through June 2008, ten years beyond the original ending date.
