Academic Units
The major academic purposes and programs of the Schools and Colleges and other academic units are summarized here, and administrators, enrollments, and other data are given. Details concerning the programs, requirements, course offerings, and faculties are available in the bulletins of the several units.
The University as a whole is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. Reaccredited in 1999, Boston University will undergo a comprehensive evaluation by the New England Association again in 2009. (View the self-study report.) School and College bulletins give details about accreditation of programs by appropriate professional associations.
Nine of the academic units offer bachelor's degrees, fourteen offer graduate degrees and certificates, and ten of these offer the doctorate.
- Schools and Colleges Boston University is comprised of seventeen Schools and Colleges located on two campuses the Charles River campus and the Medical Campus.
- Other Programs Boston University is home to a wide array of academic programs that serve students at all levels of their academic careers, as well as members of the Greater Boston community at-large.
- Affiliated Institutions There are consortium arrangements permitting Boston University students to enroll at Boston College, Brandeis, Tufts, and the Hebrew College, and permitting students at those institutions to enroll at Boston University.
- Centers and Institutes Academic and research Centers and Institutes are generally interdisciplinary in nature. They may be located within the various Schools and Colleges or, in some cases, may report to the Provost or to the Provost of the Medical Campus.
