Spring 2014

From the Lab to the White House and Back: Bridging the Science – Policy Interface

Spring Speaker Luncheon
Wednesday, April 30 from 12:00-2:00 pm
Trustee Ballroom, 1 Silber Way

Please mark your calendars and get psyched to attend this year’s Spring Speaker Luncheon, with Rosina Bierbaum! Rosina is an amazing interdisciplinary scientist working at the interface of science and policy on a global stage. She is one of only 20 distinguished scientists on President Obama’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), is an Adaptation Fellow at the World Bank, and leads the Adaptation Chapter for the U.S. National Climate assessment. In addition to her work in policy,  Rosina was Dean of SNRE at the University of Michigan from 2001-2011, during which time she facilitated the creation of a new undergraduate program, five new dual Master’s degrees across campus, and tripled interdisciplinary research in the School.

This event will be a luncheon followed by a round-table discussion with our keynote speaker and your fellow GWISE members, faculty, and guests. Dr. Bierbaum is also featured as the Pardee Center’s Annual Distinguished Lecturer and will be making a presentation in the evening of the 30th (you can find more details here as they become available).

Hey guys, join GWISE for a low key social kicking off WISEguys! Get to know your colleagues and have some fun! We’ll be soliciting feedback on future WISEguys events. Spread the word! Snacks and drinks will be provided.
WISEguys is a GWISE group aimed at increasing the participation and engagement of men in GWISE affairs. GWISE events are open to all who support women in STEM; despite this, many men do not take advantage of our excellent events and volunteer opportunities. We would like to increase attendance and bring more men into the GWISE community!
