The Boston University Sustainability Committee advises the University’s administration about strategies and programs to address sustainability issues and affect change on campus. The Sustainability Committee comprises the full spectrum of the University including faculty, staff, undergraduate and graduate students, and administration. Its makeup includes representatives from the Charles River and Medical Campuses.

The Sustainability Committee includes a Sustainability Steering Committee and, initially, four working groups: Recycling and Waste Management, Energy Conservation, Sustainable Building and Facility Operations, and Communications and Outreach. These Working Groups focus on their specific areas of expertise related to campus sustainability and make recommendations to the Administration through the Working Group Co-Chairs.

The BU Medical Center has a long-standing Sustainability Committee, which focuses on waste reduction, energy conservation, transportation, and green buildings at the Medical Center. This committee collaborates with the Sustainability Director and the BUMC community through its Sustainability Departmental Liaison program.

The Sustainability Director provides the underlying framework and administration for the Sustainability Program as well as ongoing guidance and support to the University, Working Groups, and Sustainability Steering Committee.
