Leadership

As a Greek system on campus we take pride in our student leaders. Greek life provides students with a wide variety of leadership opportunities. Members can participate within their chapter as an officer or on one of the committees each chapter maintains. There are also opportunities outside each chapter to become actively involved in BU’s 400 student organizations. For members to achieve a well-rounded education, fraternities and sororities encourage active participation in leadership experiences.

Scholarship

Scholarship is one of the most heavily emphasized items in Greek Life. Each chapter has different requirements set by its national organization to consider individuals for membership. However, the minimum requirement for consideration is a 2.0 cumulative GPA.

Each year IFC and Panhel presents awards to the individual fraternity and sorority with the highest cumulative GPA, as well as a faculty member of the year. In addition, individual members of all chapters with a GPA above 3.5 are recognized. All Greeks have the opportunity during their sophomore and junior years to apply for membership in the Order of Omega National Honor Society for outstanding academics and involvement in the Greek community.

Philanthropy

One very strong tradition of both fraternity and sorority organizations is their support of chosen philanthropies, both locally and nationally. In the past, fraternities and sororities have raised money for the following charities: Emmanuel House, The Lupus Foundation, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, National Prevention of Child Abuse, American Cancer Society, September 11th Fund, Alzheimer's Disease, Maine Sea Coast Mission, Children's Miracle Network, St. John's the Evangelist Soup Kitchen, Community Servings, AIDS Walk, Walk for Hunger, Ronald McDonald House, Rosie's Place, Breast Cancer Walk, Massachusetts Association for the Blind, Boston Area Rape Crisis Center, Salvation Army, and the Senior Citizen's Prom.

The entire Greek Community also participates annually in a Day of Service in the fall. All Boston University students are invited to attend. Last year, our two Days of Service added up to 1,200 hours of service and over 400 Greek in total participating!

Brotherhood and Sisterhood

Brotherhood/Sisterhood is the bond of unity and friendship that lasts a lifetime. By becoming a member of the Greek Life community, you may find a home away from home. Whether you came to college not knowing a single person or you knew lots of people, the opportunity to be a part of the Greek Life system can be a meaningful experience during your time at Boston University.
