Global Programs

John de Szendeffy has been involved in international and intercultural education for over 20 years. John manages the delivery of technology service and support to Global Programs, including the Center for English Language and Orientation Programs (CELOP), Study Abroad (including overseas sites), and the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO). The team is guided by the philosophy that IT is in service to other organizational objectives and must constantly search for creative ways to meet individual client needs while understanding the larger enterprise context.

After earning his Master’s in TESOL at Boston University while coordinating the Freshman-Sophomore English Program, John taught ESL at CELOP and several other Boston area colleges. He has also studied French and taught EFL in France.

John has extensive experience developing curricular and pedagogical materials for language learning, technology training, and orientation for international students. He has published two books, one on ESL and one on computer-assisted language learning (CALL). John has also developed extensive printed, web- and video-based primers on technical and pedagogical topics for faculty, staff, and students, and worked professionally in web development and print publication design. John has presented at conferences from Vancouver to Istanbul on topics in educational technology.
