Internships
The BU Global Internship Program offers students the opportunity to
put their new knowledge to work—literally.
The internship is a truly distinctive feature of BU Global’s offerings.
Typically, students who have completed a BU Global Graduate Diploma Program
are eligible to participate in the Internship Program.
What is a BU Global Internship?
A BU Global Internship is an unpaid, full-time (40 hour/week) position
at an American company or organization. BU Global Internships typically
last four months. Internships are monitored academically; hence students
receive academic credit for completing the experience. Separate tuition
costs apply to the Internship Program.
What are the benefits of completing an internship?
Internships are an excellent way to gain valuable real-world experience—and
to explore the working environment of the United States. BU Global
students who participate in the Internship Program make important professional
contacts and enhance their skills while establishing themselves as
capable international leaders.
"This
program changed my life," said Gizem Salgicil, who earned her
Graduate Diploma in International Marketing in December 2006. Now
that she has finished up her coursework, she’s moved on to a BU Global
Internship in one of BU’s very own marketing departments. A native
of Istanbul, Turkey, Gizem will spend the next four months developing
marketing plans, conducting research, and reviewing budgets—skills
she hopes will help her land her dream job as a Brand Manager at
Coca-Cola.

How is the internship arranged?
BU Global assists students in identifying
appropriate internship opportunities. However, students should expect
to complete an application and interview process in order to secure
their internship.
In preparation for the internship application process,
BU Global offers workshops on resume
writing, interviewing techniques,
and long-term job strategies.
What companies host BU Global students as interns?
Each student has a unique internship experience. BU Global works with
students to determine
what kind of internship best matches the career
goals, skill level, and interests of the individual.

their internship.

After completing both a BU Global Graduate Diploma
Program and the Internship Program, BU Global students are eligible
for Optional Practical Training (OPT). Through OPT, students may
remain in the U.S. and work for up to one year at a salary negotiated
with the employer. This is a unique opportunity for students to
gain valuable work experience that will be of considerable notice
to future employers.
During OPT, students maintain F-1 visa status
since it is considered to be part of the program of study. Immigration
approval is required prior to starting work, which can take up
to four months. The maximum amount of time granted to work in F-1
practical training status is twelve months after graduation. |
