Distinguished Scholar in Global Health

The Global Health Initiative at Boston University supports the Distinguished Visiting Scholar in Global Health Program. Prominent members of the global health community spend up to six months in residence at the BU campus to study, research, lecture and collaborate with faculty and students.

In-coming Distinguished Scholar in Global Health

Dr. Nirmal K. Ganguly is the current Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research, and an accomplished investigator who has worked on basic and applied research on diarrheal diseases. He has been a successful leader for ICMR, and he has changed its culture to a higher level merit-based vigorous research organization. Dr. Ganguly will be the GHI Distinguished Visiting Scholar in Global Health and Adjunct Professor of International Health at the School of Public Health during the fall 2008 semester. He will work on translational research for public health in developing countries with India as a model.

Recent Distinguished Scholar in Global Health

Dr. Sima Samar, chair of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission and recipient of the Jonathan Mann Award for Global Health and Human Rights 2004, visited Boston University in May and October 2006 engaging in conversations with faculty, students, and staff at the Medical and Charles River campuses to bring to the forefront the security, human rights and healthcare challenges faced by Afghan women and children.
