Our Mission

The Global Health Initiative Promotes Multi-Disciplinary Research, Education, Outreach and Policy Studies Across and Beyond the Boston University Community. Our Goal is to Contribute to Reducing Disparities in Health Through the Generation of New Knowledge, the Education of our Students as "Global Citizens," and the Development of Partnerships with Global Health Leaders, Scholars, and Practitioners Around the World.

Boston University, a top international research institution known for its broadly diversified academics, entrepreneurial spirit, and commitment to engaging socially relevant issues, has established the Global Health Initiative (GHI) to pursue and advance solutions to global health challenges by building upon BU's unique array of program strengths on the Medical and Charles River campuses. The GHI:

  • Fosters enhanced basic, translational, and applied interdisciplinary research in global health
  • Stimulates and supports the development of new educational tracks and training programs
  • Acts as a university wide clearinghouse and coordination center for outreach activities in global health
  • Organizes seminars, workshops and interdisciplinary conferences
  • Partners with public-health scholars and practitioners worldwide
  • Participates in policy debates on global public health and science
