Dr. Joia Mukherjee is Associate Professor with Harvard Medical School and the Division of Global Health Equity at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Since 2000, she has served as Chief Medical Officer for Partners In Health, providing clinical supervision to its sites in Haiti, Rwanda, Burundi, Malawi, Lesotho, Peru, Mexico, Russia, Kazakhstan, and inner-city Boston. In this capacity she is involved in programmatic and clinical work to provide health care and reduce health disparities by developing public sector, community based programs with local colleagues in those countries. She trained in Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, and Pediatrics at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and received a Master in Public Health degree from Harvard School of Public Health. Additionally, Dr. Mukherjee consults for the World Health Organization on the treatment of HIV and MDR-TB in developing countries. She has been involved in health care access and human rights issues since 1989, and her scholarly work focuses on the human rights aspect of HIV treatment and on the implementation of complex health interventions in resource-poor settings.
