Futures Group is seeking a Summer Intern to support the development and implementation of a recently awarded project for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) health and human rights focusing on religious leader (Christian and Muslim) sensitivity training. The summer intern will provide research support, evaluation protocol development, and overall project implementation support. The position will also allow for exposure in other practice areas including family planning and reproductive health, HIV, policy and advocacy issues.

Responsibilities:

Support the launch and implementation of a LGBT human rights focused project in Sub Saharan Africa

  • Help coordinate work plan development for projects related to human rights and HIV
  • Research and review literature related to sexuality, sexual orientation, and religion (particularly Christian and Islam faiths)
  • Attend meetings on behalf of the project and provide notes on proceedings for team members
  • Support development of online newsletter related to HIV policy and advocacy
  • Research human rights frameworks to family planning interventions
  • Develop templates and other documents to be used to systematize research on family planning interventions in Sub Saharan Africa
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

•    Currently an undergraduate or graduate student who will be able to receive academic credit for the internship. Please note again that this position is unpaid.
•    Sensitivity towards the needs of marginalized groups including LGBT persons

  •  Understanding of evaluation methodologies
  •  Knowledge of the global HIV epidemic.
    •    Computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
