IYLEP Lead Program Coordinator:                                        Expected Start Date: Summer 2015

Global Youth Leadership Institute (GYLI) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring and empowering leaders in schools and communities. Our mission is to deliver transformative educational programs that foster global pluralism, collaborative leadership, and environmental care, helping students and teachers become fully engaged citizens of the world.

The Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program (IYLEP) has four program goals:

1) Enable the participants to understand civic participation and the rights and responsibilities of citizens in a democracy;

2) Develop leadership skills;

3) Foster understanding and build relationships across ethnic, religious, and national groups; and

4) Promote mutual understanding between the people of Iraq and the United States.

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Youth Programs Division, the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, World Learning and GYLI will collaborate to send 10 U.S. high school students and about 30 Iraqi high school students on a four-week educational exchange within the United States.  Participants will come together for a week of leadership training in Brattleboro, Vermont before dividing into 3 cohorts and traveling to one of three host communities across the country. Students will then reunite in Washington, D.C. to create social action plans. Highlights will include homestays with local families, community service project planning and presentations.

This position will coordinate programming in one of 2 host communities (the content focus of each program is listed in parentheses):

  • Boston, Massachusetts (Public Health): August 6-20 or August 18- September 1 2015
  • Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Environment): August 6-20 or August 18- September 1 2015

    JOB DESCRIPTION: Global Youth Leadership Institute seeks a program coordinator. This is a short-term (approximately 2 week), contract position.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand goals and objectives of IYLEP and GYLI
  • Act as lead liaison between this program, World Learning staff and GYLI Executive Director
  • Lead and direct all recruiting, interviewing and onboarding of Homestay Families
  • Collaborate with co-coordinator in placing students in a homestay family
  • Lead all aspects of planning schedule of events and logistics for the program and confirm with the GYLI office
  • Assure physical and emotional safety in all aspects of the program
  • Co-deliver curriculum in alignment with GYLI and World Learning guidelines
  • Communicate with homestay families before, during and after the program
  • Understand budget and financial reporting including reimbursements and cost share, assist with spending to stay within budget guidelines and keep records of all financial spending in relation to program
  • Oversee evaluation of Program
  • Submit a Post-Institute report to GYLI office

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Experience working with youth
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills
  • Strong support of the GYLI vision and mission
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively
