About who we are and what we do Review our previous asked question Conference Entry

GIVE is an information service for health care providers, faculty and trainees offered by Boston University Medical Campus Geriatrics Section. The purpose of this site is to archive the monthly evidence-based medicine (EBM) cases presented by Boston Medical Center Residents during their 4-week block rotation in geriatrics.

During their rotation residents identify a patient whose encounter generates a clinical questions (diagnosis, treatment, harm, prognosis). The residents gather relevant background information about the patient (medical history, social background, functional ability, cognitive ability, health preferences, physical exam, laboratory data), then the preceptor guides the residents in shaping the question into an answerable format. The residents then search medical literature and identify two or three pieces of original research that best address the question. The preceptor introduces the methods for critiquing the validity, importance, and applicability of the evidence. The residents review and critique the articles. The preceptor and residents then present the case during the Geriatrics Section weekly conference series. Contained within this site is a searchable history of EBM conferences.
