Physical Geography
Physical Geography investigates the physical and biological mechanisms controlling the function of Earth's atmosphere, biosphere, and hydrosphere. Research disciplines represented within the Geography and Environment Department's Physical Geography focus area include: physical climatology, global change biology, hydrology, physiological ecology, and plant biogeography. Current research topics include: climate and vegetation change detection and analysis, biosphere-atmosphere mass and energy exchanges and feedbacks, and vegetation control of hydrologic processes. Research leverages heavily on existing departmental strengths in remote sensing and geospatial analysis, which provides spatial context and integration to process-centered studies.
