A Study of the Genetics of Parkinson’s Disease in Siblings Our purpose is to try to determine if there may be a genetic cause or basis for some cases of Parkinson’s Disease (PD). With this information, we hope to gain a better understanding of what causes PD and eventually to learn better ways to treat it, to prevent it and perhaps to cure it. People with Parkinson’s Disease who have brothers or sisters who also have PD can be a big help to this research effort. Most people with PD do not have a relative with the disease and so it is hard for us to locate the pairs of brothers and sisters with the genes that might be contributing to their Parkinson’s Disease. How can brothers or sisters with PD help the study? We need pairs of brothers or sisters who both have Parkinson’s Disease to help us find the genes that might be responsible for their PD. To do this, we need a blood sample from you and each brother or sister who has PD. In addition, we need information to be sure that you have PD; we need information about your family history of PD, whether other relatives may have (or had) PD. Finally, we need information about your medical history. How can I learn more about the study and whether my family can help? To find out whether your family can help, contact Jeanne Latourelle, our National Study Coordinator, with your questions using email: jlatoure@bu.edu Or call Jeanne at (617) 638-5179 In case Jeanne is unavailable, please leave a brief message on her voicemail box. Please include your Name, Phone Number and the best time to call you (indicating in which time zone you live). You may also call Richard Myers, Ph.D, the Principal Investigator of this study, at (617) 638-5376. Thank you for
your interest.
