Well-known Brazilian economist Paulo Nogueira Batista, Jr. has been the Executive Director representing Brazil and a group of eight countries in the region at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) since April 2007. Prior to joining the IMF, he served in Brazil as Under Secretary for Economics Affairs, Ministry of Planning; Advisor to the Minister for Finance on External Debt, Ministry of Finance; and Head of the Center for Monetary and International Economics Studies, Getulio Vargas Foundation in Sao Paulo.
