  Family

magnolia blossoms Raising children can be a joy and a challenge. Single parenting, blended families, and step–parenting provide their own unique experiences. It is often hard to know if a child's behavior is within the developmental norm or whether a special intervention is required. New or unusual life events—births, illness, and death can also impact on the well–being of a child.

Parenting Issues

Some signs that you as a parent may need some extra help are:
  • Arguments with family
  • Feeling at odds with your child most of the time
  • Feeling at odds with your spouse or ex–spouse around child rearing issues
  • Irritability, moodiness, social isolation
  • Neglect of previously enjoyable activities
  • Puzzled about finding effective and appropriate discipline
Children's Issues
  • Adjusting to a new step–family
  • Adjusting to divorce or remarriage
  • Coping with family crisis
  • Coping with illness or death
  • Difficult behavior at home
  • Persistent moodiness
  • Poor school performance
  • Problems with friendships
  • Substance abuse
If these or any other issues are of concern to you, please call the FSAO at 617/353-5381 to schedule an appointment. Remember, the FSAO is a free, confidential benefit for employees and their families.
