Obento - Japanese Culture in a Box, with Debra Samuels

The Japanese say that you eat with your eyes. And there is nothing more appealing than a beautifully constructed bento, the popular, perfectly portioned, and healthy Japanese lunchbox. Join Debra Samuels, author of the award-winning My Japanese Table, for a lively presentation and workshop on Japanese cuisine and the art of making bento. Learn how to make popular elements such as tamago yaki (rolled Japanese omelet) and onigiri (rice balls) that you can combine with American favorites. The class will explore meals for kids, teens, and adults and will focus on how to bring the bento spirit into your own kitchen. Participants will receive their own bento box. Samuels, a cookbook author who has lived in Japan for more than a decade, will also exhibit her extensive collection of bento boxes and bento-making accessories. Includes copy of My Japanese Table.
