Wine Level 2: A Comprehensive Survey of Wine


This course goes into greater depth than Level 1 and is a prerequisite for Levels 3 and 4. Students passing this course will attain proficiency in the field of wine and associated alcoholic beverages. This intensive survey covers each of the world's most important geographic areas and includes comprehensive comparative tastings. There are 14 3-hour classes (one of which covers beer and spirits combined); the final exam includes a tasting as well as a written component. Prerequisite: none

BOOKS: The World Atlas of Wine, by Hugh Johnson & Jancis Robinson.  (Hamlyn: 6th Edition)

Textbook is not included but may be purchased at the bookseller of your choice or at Boston University’s Barnes and Noble – 660 Beacon St. (Kenmore Square) – Boston, MA. 617-267-8484.

GLASSES: Please bring 6 wine tasting glasses to class. We recommend the short-stemmed INAO tasting glasses ($25), available at The Wine Gallery – 375 Boylston St., Route 9 at Cypress St. – Brookline, MA – 617-277-5522. Students should call the store for availability.
