The Dance Theatre Group
For those interested in dance as a performance art who wish to perform, choreograph, or learn about stage production, there is the Dance Theatre Group (DTG). DTG is a student organization advised and supervised by Micki Taylor-Pinney with assistance from dance faculty Ann Brown Allen and guest artist Peter DiMuro.
DTG’s purpose is to create opportunities for the study and enjoyment of all forms of dance and dance production. Serious dancers who have opted for a liberal arts education or dance enthusiasts who have chosen dance as their extracurricular activity are welcome to join.
How to get involved
- Choreographer—If you want to choreograph, just say so! If you need dancers you can announce the number of dancers you need and the type of movement your piece will focus on (modern, lyrical, ballet, experimental, or jazz) so those considering your piece have an idea of what is expected. Rehearsal space and time is scheduled through the Department of Dance. Faculty and student choreographers typically schedule two- to three-hour weekly rehearsals for work to be presented in the concert. We ask that choreographers spend one semester in DTG before making work for the company and that they select music without (English) words.
- Dancer—If you want to dance just let the choreographers know that you are available and interested in their piece. Please remember that once you agree to be in a piece, it is a commitment and you are expected to be at each rehearsal!
- Production crew—DTG allows you to learn about concert production. You can assist with promotions, box office, and ushering, or be a backstage hand.
The Dance Theatre Group is funded in part by the Undergraduate Student Fee and in part by membership dues of $30 per semester and fundraising.
Please consider donating to the BU Dance Theatre Group! Your gift will help us continue to grow and to serve the University and local community by enabling us to program a variety of dance events.
