Summer Term Classes
Rowing
General Information
All on the water classes are held at the Dewolfe Boathouse,
619 Memorial Drive, Cambridge. These classes always go! If
unrowable water conditions prevail, then there will be land
drills and workouts substituted.
For those new to this sport, you will need to bring training
shoes, shirt, shorts or tights (close fitting so as not to
become entangled in the seat assembly) sweats and a light
waterproof jacket. There are locker rooms and showers available with
day lockers (please bring your own lock for your security). The sport requires that boats be at full complement
before they are put on the water, so timeliness and commitment
are of the essence of this endeavor. The performance and skills
necessary to steer and take control of a crew and boat require a
coxswain for all classes. Safety instruction
and review are also part of every course. Please direct course
content and related questions to dpadgett@bu.edu.
May Masters Rowing and Sculling
Prerequisite: Experience at an intermediate Rowing and Sculling level or beyond. It is necessary to make a commitment to rigorous technical and workout challenges in these classes. Eight oared and four oared shells will be used in the rowing class and quads and doubles will be employed in the sculling class. Participants may be asked to cox a crew. A review of safety and operating procedures will be a part of this course. For scheduling please see the class on the listing below and register online.
Summer Rowing and Sculling
Starting June 8, we are pleased to be able to offer, for our 31st year, summer rowing classes for a wide range of abilities from beginner to experienced in both rowing (one oar in two hands) and sculling (an oar in each hand). These classes are open to all regardless of age, height etc., the only requirement is being to be able to pass the Boston University Boating Swim test. Two sessions run, six weeks each through the summer and the classes are two days a week, evenings or mornings. Classes are held Monday – Thursday. Youth Classes are also offered in the afternoon starting June 22 through our Family Recreation Program. If rowing or sculling is something you have always wanted to try, this is a wonderful opportunity. Finally, with predictable warm weather what better way to start or end your day on the Charles River just after dawn or enjoying a spectacular sunset?
A Boston University Boating Swim Test is required
for all on the water classes. A current (5 year validity)
Boston University Boating Swim Test card is the only certification
accepted.
