Rowing and Sailing
MASTERS ROWING AND SCULLING
Participants will engage in rigorous workouts, as well as technical drills. All aspects of the rowing discipline are emphasized, including sculling. A requirement to participate, on a rotational basis, as a coxswain might be necessary and is part of this course. Prerequisite: Completion of the BU Boating Swim Test, and completions of Level 2, Level 3, or Masters Rowing or Sculling courses at BU, or equivalent.
INDOOR TRAINING FOR ROWING
Training takes place at the rowing tanks and crew workout area at 300 Babcock St. Technical and physiological workouts will be done both on the rowing ergometer and in the rowing tanks. A review of technical rowing points will be conducted periodically and a rigorous training schedule will be included. Participants can sign up for between one and four days per week. No prerequisite except to have rowed or sculled (no beginners.)
No swim test required.
For Credit PDP Rowing and Sailing Courses
Throughout the fall semester, rowing and sailing classes are also offered for credit as a PDP Course, via Student Link. PE Credit Classes.
Prereq: Successful completion of the BU Boating Swim Test. Participants are taught the fundamentals of the rowing stroke, first on land and in a stable training barge, then in eight oared rowing shells. It may be necessary to steer and take control of a crew and boat as a coxswain as part of the class. Basic safety instruction and procedures are also taught and emphasized.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of a Beginning Rowing class or the equivalent and participants must pass the BU Boating Swim Test to qualify for this course only if they have not completed it within the past 5 years. This class is aimed towards the rower who has been introduced to the fundamentals of sweep rowing and is looking to improve their skills. All aspects of the rowing discipline are emphasized, including coxing. Instruction will emphasize more demanding workouts and technical considerations. A review of safety and operating procedures will be a part of this course.

It is necessary to make a commitment to more rigorous workout challenges in these classes with some competitive situations included. There will still be an emphasis on skill development. The double scull boat and single scull will be used primarily. A review of safety and operating procedures will be a part of this course.

It is necessary to make a commitment to more rigorous technical and workout challenges in these classes. Eight oared, four oared, coxed quads and double (and possibly single) sculls will be employed (coxing is a requirement.) A review of safety and operating procedures will be a part of this course.

Eight oared shells will be used primarily with some use of four oared shell when necessary. A review of safety and operating procedures will be a part of this course. (Coxing may be required but we will look to have one dedicated coxswain per class as part of the course.)
