Dance Theater Rental Rates & Fees for BU Student Groups
Boston University offers standard and customized rental packages that range from full production performances, to master classes and conferences.
Performance Packages:
All Performance packages are modeled for low to medium technical needs, using the Dance
Theater's repertory lighting plot, and sound system. For higher production value performances
additional load-in, strike, and rehearsal time may be required. Additional fees may apply.
Package # 1 (1 Day Rehearsal & Performance)
- 1 Performance: 4 hours
- Tech/ Dress Rehearsal: 5 hours
- "Strike" following thefinalperformance: 1 hour
- Total: 10 hours
Package Includes: Theater Manager/Technical Director. Light Board Operator, Sound Board Operator and Backstage Manager (for hours listed above);
House Manager, Custodial Services and Emergency Medical Services.
Not Included: Stage Manager, Lighting Designer, Box Office staff, ushers or
additional stage crew. BUPD must be contracted by Student Group through Student Services.
Cost: $1,390.00 (BU Student Groups, BUPD not included)
Package # 2 (2 Performances with Tech and Dress Rehearsal)
- 2 Performances: 8 hours
- 1 Technical Rehearsal: 5 hours
- 1 Dress Rehearsal: 4 hours
- "Strike" folllowing the final performance: 1 hour
- Total: 18 hours
- Based on availability up to 3 additional hours of spacing/rehearsal time may be added
at no charge. (Space only; no technical support)
Package Includes: Theater Manager/Technical Director. Light Board Operator and Sound Board Operator and Back Stage Manager (for hours listed above);
House Manager, Custodial Services and Emergency Medical Services.
Not Included: Stage Manager, Lighting Designer, Box Office staff, ushers or
additional stage crew.
Cost: $2,165.00 (BU Student Groups, BUPD not included)
Additional Production Charges
Additional costs, may include, but are not limited to the following: additional light and sound equipment, liability insurance, box office, catering, parking, and other costs associated with
production. Fees for some additional services:
- $122.00 per hour for additional tech time (Includes light and sound board operators)
- Price varies for additional Load-In and Strike time depending on the needs of the
performance; please call to discuss.
- $100.00 per event for Box Office Services.
- $587.00 for each additional performance plus $100.00 per hour for Technical and Front
of House support.
- $200.00 per hour penalty for use of space beyond contracted hours.
- Catering cost varies. (All catering must go through BU's Catering on the Charles)

oversee all electrical tie-ins, which will require additional fees.
Master Classes, Rehearsals, & Informal Events Rates
- $57.00 per hour for space rental
- $90.00 per hour for space rental with use of house sound system
- $20.00 per hour for each technical staff member needed. (Light board operator,
Sound board operator, or additional stage crew)
- $45.00 per hour (4 hour minimum) for BUPD coverage. Required with any ticket
and/or merchandise sales. (Does not include BU Student Groups)
- $35.00 per hour (4 hour minimum) for Custodial coverage
Conference & Meeting Rates
Meeting & conference rates are for the use of the space only. Additional fees may apply when using any of our audio/visual equipment or if technical staff is needed.
- $220.00 for � Day Rate (4 hours)
- $445.00 for Daily Rate (8 hours)
- $1,200.00 for 3 Day Rate (24 hours)
- $1,700.00 for Weekly Rates (40 hours)

Theater Rental Guidelines
Non-Refundable Deposit
The University requires a 10% non-refundable deposit to save the date. The balance and the contract are due four months prior to the event. In case of cancellation, the following schedule applies:
- Cancellation less than 90 days prior to beginning of the rental period forfeits 50% of
rental fee.
- Cancellation 60-89 days prior to beginning of the rental period forfeits 100% of rental
fee.
Marketing Support
If you rent the studio/theater, we ask your help in getting us timely, accurate information so we can list your production in the:
- Glass Case in the Buick St. Lobby
- Kiosk poster stations
- Our website
- Event flyer handed out to patrons who visit the Dance Theater events.
University Complimentary Tickets
The University may reserve up to ten complimentary tickets per week at its own discretion, but shall not do so for any sold out performance.
