Pilates classes are offered in both for- credit and through our noncredit program.
We offer:
- group Pilates-based Conditioning, also known as “mat” classes. Offered both for physical education credit and through our noncredit program.
- small group Pilates Apparatus courses* offered through our noncredit program. Pilates mat classes (at BU or elsewhere) are a prerequisite for Pilates Apparatus courses.
- private and semi-private mat, apparatus or combined personal training classes offered through our noncredit program. See below for details on how to register.
Our certified instructors will tailor classes to meet the needs of the students and address alignment issues, injury prevention, rehabilitation and/or wellness goals.

Brought into the spotlight in the 1980’s by Hollywood stars who sang the praises of the system, Pilates has been around since early/mid 1900’s. Now considered mainstream, Pilates emphasizes alignment and correctives work based on exercises and concepts developed by Joseph H. Pilates. Athletes, dancers and those looking to improve their overall fitness and well-being, find Pilates improves their core strength and flexibility.

*In the apparatus classes, students learn exercises for mat, reformer, cadillac, barrel, chair and other apparatus with emphasis on improved body alignment, strength, flexibility, control, and coordination. |
In the private classes, clients can choose sessions in matwork, apparatus or a combination. Single sessions or packages of 5 or 10 sessions are available.
To schedule your initial Private Pilates session:
- Complete the following two forms in their entirety and either email* to the Pilates Manager, Ann Allen at aballen@bu.edu, fax to (617) 358-5147, or deliver in person to the PERD Office, Monday through Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm.
Pilates mat classes (at BU or elsewhere) are a prerequisite for Pilates Apparatus courses.

*If you choose to submit via email, we will have you sign forms requiring a signature at your first session.
- Once we have received both forms, we will contact you to schedule your sessions and ask that you register and pay for the package.
- You can register and pay either online, in person at the PERD Office, or by fax using the Universal Registration Form.
