Policies

Cancellations and Refunds

Please read the following information carefully:

You may cancel your membership within 3 business days of your join date and receive a full refund per Massachusetts General Law. After that, your membership can be terminated on an involuntary or voluntary basis. 

To cancel, you must complete and sign a Cancellation form which is available at the FitRec Front Desk. If you are unable to pick up a form at the front desk, you may print out the form below, fill it out, scan and e-mail it to Nate Fuller at perdmbsg@bu.edu

Please be aware that the deadline to cancel is the 10th of the month. If you cancel on the 11th or later, you will be charged for the following month. There are no refunds on monthly memberships.

FitRec does not accept written e-mail or verbal requests to cancel a membership plan.

Involuntary Membership Cancellation

  • Your status as a Boston University affiliate has changed and you are no longer eligible for membership.
  • If your plan is the one-time annual payment, your refund will be prorated based on the unused months, at the monthly rate, for the membership year.
  • If your plan is the one-time six month payment, your refund will be prorated based on the unused months, at the monthly rate, for the membership period.
  • If your plan is monthly dues, your membership will continue until the last day of the month you became ineligible.

Voluntary Membership Cancellation

  • You choose to cancel your membership at any time, even though your Boston University affiliation has not changed, or if your Boston University affiliation has changed and you are still eligible for membership.

  • You must cancel your membership at the Membership Desk and sign a membership cancellation form. Verbal cancellations are NOT accepted over the phone or via e-mail under any circumstances. However, you may e-mail a completed Cancellation Form to perdmbsg@bu.edu.

  • If your plan was the one-time annual payment or one-time six-month payment:

    1. No refund will be given for the remainder of the month in which you cancel your membership and your membership will still be valid until the last day of the month.
    2. All membership cancellations must be received by the 10th of the month in order not to be billed for the following month.
    3. A $25 cancellation fee will apply to all one-time annual payment cancellations and one-time six month payment cancellations with the following exceptions:
      • Changes in medical conditions resulting in physical limitations (must receive a physician’s note).
      • 9 or 10 month contract employees who do not wish to retain their membership during non-contract periods.
      • Formal leaves of absence and/or sabbaticals.
      • For Alumni only, if you have moved a distance greater than 20 miles from the Fitness and Recreation Center.
    • Your refund will be calculated based on the amount you paid minus the number of months used at the monthly membership rate minus the cancellation fee.
  • If your plan was monthly dues:
    • No refund will be given for the remainder of the month in which you cancel your membership and your membership will still be valid until the last day of the month.
