Take a group exercise class for academic credit

PDP credit courses are a great way for students to schedule a workout into their academic weeks or balance their course loads. From swimming to group fitness to dance, BU offers something for everyone! Classes generally meet once or twice a week, for varying times. Most are held in BU’s new, state-of-the-art Fitness and Recreation Center. Register for your class on StudentLink, and then pay fees (if necessary) on My FitRec.

PDP FT 100 Basic Fitness Workout

A great all-over workout for everyone; includes a warm-up, aerobic phase, strength training, stretching, cool down and floor exercises.  [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 102 Condition and Tone

Designed to enhance upper and lower body muscle tone. Includes a warm-up stretching phase,and floor work.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 103 Fat Burn

A high/low combo type class that will get your heart pumping and body moving to burn fat.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 104 Step Training

A class that combines cardiovascular conditioning and strength training. Students perform a variety of movements while stepping on and off the platform. For those serious about increasing their fitness level.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 105 Total Body Conditioning

Take your body to the next level by combining weight training, body weight exercises, aerobic step drills, and plyometrics training to create a high intensity, total body workout. Strength training exercises and high-intensity interval drills are performed in quick succession to maximize your calorie burn and enhance your fitness level by working your whole body.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 106 Step Low-Impact

A course combination step training and low-impact aerobics. Appropriate for all levels.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 107 Zumba

Described as a fitness party, this fast paced aerobics class features Latin tunes and easy to follow moves will allow you to achieve long term results while having fun.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 108 Split 20/20/20

Three workouts in one! The 20/20/20 class is designed to give you the ultimate challenge and total body workout. Sweat through 20 minutes of cardio, 20 minutes of resistance training and 20 minutes of stretching and core work.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 109 Cardio Cycle

This class offers a great cardiovascular workout. With the encouragement of up-beat instructors and various cycling drills and combos you will ride your way to improved endurance.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 110 Stability Ball Training

Train the entire body using a resistance ball. Improve muscular strength, endurance, coordination, and flexibility in a low inatensity class designed for all levels.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 112 Basic Weight Training Principles

Sprg ‘16

A course in the principles and methods of strength training using machine and free-weight exercises. Improve muscle strength, tone, endurance and body composition with sensible safe weight training.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 113 Weight Training for Women

A course for women who want to improve muscular strength, endurance and body composition using free-weight and machine exercises. Students design a strength program according to personal goals and objectives.  [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 114 Fitness Fundamentals

Sprg ‘16

A course in fitness training principles and methods that will enable you to design your own fitness routine. The five components of fitness, cardiovascular, muscular strength, muscular endurance, body composition, and flexibility will be reviewed in depth.  [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 115 Basic Conditioning

PDP FT 125 Principles of High Intensity Interval Training

Sprg ‘16

This class is a mix of interval training, weightlifting, gymnastics and mobility exercises to increase participants overall fitness capacity. You will learn the principles and benefits of HIIT training.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 200 Sculpt and Stretch

A total body conditioning workout that combines stretching, weights, and calisthenics to tone and sculpt muscles. Dance exercises are used to strengthen and lengthen muscles, to increase flexibility, and assist in preventing injury.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 202 Athletic Conditioning

A challenging workout consisting of high and low intensity sport specific exercises. This class focuses on speed, power, agility and strength.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 204 Cardiostep and Ab Lab

A complete workout that starts with a warm-up and cardiovascular exercise, including stepping to tone the lower body, and finishes with intense abdominal strengthening followed by a relaxing cool-down period.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 205 Bosu Blast

This high-intensity class provides a challenging workout using the Bosu Ball. It offers total body conditioning to improve strength, endurance and balance.  [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 206 Interval Training

A course that combines bursts of high-intensity work interspersed with periods of lower-intensity training.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 207 Zumba, Advanced

Described as a fitness party, this fast paced aerobics class featuring Latin tunes and easy to follow moves will allow you to achieve long term results while having fun. The advanced class incorporates basic moves from the Basic Zumba class and adds more difficult moves.  [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 209 Advanced Cardio Cycle

This high-intensity cycle class will push your limits with bike sprints, runs, and hill climbs. The advanced class builds upon moves learned from the cardio cycle class and adds more demanding intervals.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 210 Weight Training for Women

A course for the female athlete to improve muscular strength, endurance, and body composition using free-weight and machine exercises. Students design a strength program according to personal goals and objectives.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 212 Advanced Weight Training

Sprg ‘16

The objective of this class is to educate and assist in creating an individual resistance training program. Class combines learn-by-doing workshops with classroom presentations on strength training principles. The advanced class incorporates basic exercise techniques learned from the basic weight training class.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 215 Advanced Conditioning

This course will explore cardiovascular training zones more closely. Students will learn both aerobic and anaerobic training zones and methods of training each zone. Exercise form and function will be reviewed in-depth to allow participants to develop balanced total body fitness programs. Weekly workouts will include a warm-up, strength training, flexibility and cardiovascular components.  [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 222 Power Lifting Fundamentals

Sprg ‘16

Open to all levels of lifting experience, this class is centered on the three powerlifting lifts of squat, bench press and deadlift. Class reviews proper technique, methods of training and preparation, periodization, mental strategies, injury prevention, assistance exercises to enhance the three lifts and competition rules.  [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 301 Cardio Kickboxing

A great cardiovascular workout. Kick off the fat and punch off the pounds. Martial arts and kickboxing are combined to increase muscular strength, cardiovascular conditioning, coordination and balance.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 302 Cardio Boxing

Learn the basics of boxing and achieve an overall optimum level of fitness. Set to music, this intensive workout includes abdominal strengthening exercises.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 304 Fitness Instructor Training

Sprg ‘16

Prepares the student to take the group exercise instructor certification exam with the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) and to learn about individualized programs in health and fitness. Lectures include basic anatomy, exercise physiology, nutrition, and biomechanics. Practical training workshops are offered in exercise leadership, choreography, and safety.   [ 2 cr. ]

PDP FT 306 Personal Trainer Certification Training

Sprg ‘16

Certification training class designed to prepare individuals for Certified Personal Trainer Examination given by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA-CPT). Includes practical and theoretical seminars in basic anatomy and exercise physiology, fitness evaluation, training program design, nutrition, teaching methods, and safety issues. Extra class fee includes text and test prep materials.  [ 2 cr. ]
