Take a group exercise class for academic credit

PDP credit courses are a great way for students to schedule a workout into their academic weeks or balance their course loads. From swimming to group fitness to dance, BU offers something for everyone! Classes generally meet once or twice a week, for varying times. Most are held in BU’s new, state-of-the-art Fitness and Recreation Center. Register for your class on StudentLink, and then pay fees (if necessary) on My FitRec.

PDP FT 112 Basic Weight Training Principles

Fall ‘16

A course in the principles and methods of strength training using machine and free-weight exercises. Improve muscle strength, tone, endurance and body composition with sensible safe weight training.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 114 Fitness Fundamentals

Fall ‘16

A course in fitness training principles and methods that will enable you to design your own fitness routine. The five components of fitness, cardiovascular, muscular strength, muscular endurance, body composition, and flexibility will be reviewed in depth.  [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 115 Basic Conditioning

Fall ‘16

Exercise form and function will be reviewed in depth to allow participants to develop balanced total body fitness programs. Weekly workouts will include a warm-up, strength training, flexibility and cardiovascular components.  [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 125 Principles of High Intensity Interval Training

Fall ‘16

This class is a mix of interval training, weightlifting, gymnastics and mobility exercises to increase participants overall fitness capacity. You will learn the principles and benefits of HIIT training.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 212 Advanced Weight Lifting

Fall ‘16

The objective of this class is to educate and assist in creating an individual resistance training program. Class combines learn-by-doing workshops with classroom presentations on strength training principles, periodization, mental strategies, injury prevention, and assistance exercises. The advanced class incorporates basic exercise techniques learned from the basic weight training class.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 304 Fitness Instructor Training

Fall ‘16

Prepares the student to take the group exercise instructor certification exam with the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) and to learn about individualized programs in health and fitness. Lectures include basic anatomy, exercise physiology, nutrition, and biomechanics. Practical training workshops are offered in exercise leadership, choreography, and safety.   [ 2 cr. ]

PDP FT 306 Personal Trainer Certification Training

Fall ‘16

Certification training class designed to prepare individuals for Certified Personal Trainer Examination given by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA-CPT). Includes practical and theoretical seminars in basic anatomy and exercise physiology, fitness evaluation, training program design, nutrition, teaching methods, and safety issues. Extra class fee includes text and test prep materials.  [ 2 cr. ]
