Federal Pell Grant is awarded to students demonstrating
substantial financial need, based on information submitted on the
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Federal
Pell Grant Formula.
Any Federal Pell Grant funds for which you
are eligible but which you do not receive, will NOT be replaced with
Boston University
grant. If your Federal Pell is greater than estimated, your Boston University
grant will be reduced; if the amount received is less, your Boston University
grant will be increased.
Renewal criteria: Students who have completed fewer
than two years at Boston University must have completed a minimum
of 12 credits each semester with a CUMULATIVE grade point average
of at least 1.70 for the prior academic year. Students who have completed
at least two years at Boston University must have completed at
least 12 credits each semester and have a minimum CUMULATIVE grade
point average of 2.0.
SEOG is funded by a federal allocation and a Boston University
matching contribution. Recipients are selected by Boston University
in accordance with federal regulations, which stipulate that SEOG
be awarded to students with the lowest family contributions and greatest
financial need, usually Federal Pell Grant recipients.

at least 1.70 for the prior academic year. Students who have completed
at least two years at Boston University must have completed at
least 12 credits each semester and have a minimum CUMULATIVE grade

The Academic Competitiveness Grant is funded by federal allocation and offered to Federal Pell Grant recipients who meet certain academic and other eligibility criteria.
Awards amounts range up to $750 for the first academic year of a student’s program of study, and up to $1,300 for the second year.
First-year recipients must not have been previously enrolled in a program of undergraduate education, and must have completed their secondary school program of study after January 1, 2006.
Second-year recipients must have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average, and must have completed their secondary school program of study after January 1, 2005.
All Academic Competitiveness Grant recipients must:
- be Pell Grant recipients
- be U.S. citizens
- be enrolled full-time
- have completed a rigorous secondary school program of study
- meet all other eligibility requirements

The National SMART Grant is funded by federal allocation and offered to Federal Pell Grant recipients who are studying computer science, engineering, technology, life science, mathematics, physical science, or a designated foreign language, and who meet other eligibility criteria.
Awards up to $4,000 are offered for each of the third and fourth academic years of undergraduate study.
National SMART Grant recipients must:
- be Pell Grant recipients
- be U.S. citizens
- be enrolled full-time in a four-year degree program
- have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average
- be enrolled in an eligible program of study

Full-time undergraduate students enrolled in the Boston University Science and Engineering Program who apply and are eligible for need-based federal financial aid may be selected to receive the National Science Foundation Scholarship. Consideration for a limited number of scholarships is based on academic merit and financial need. Funding is provided by the National Science Foundation’s Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S-STEM) grant and Boston University.
National Science Foundation Scholarship recipients must:
- be apply and be eligible for need-based federal financial aid
- be U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens
- be enrolled full-time in the Boston University Science and Engineering Program
