Applicants for renewal of aid who do not meet the academic standards for University grant may receive a Contingent Award for the fall semester provided:
- Their prior academic year GPA is at least 1.80 for sophomores or 2.10 for juniors or seniors
- They have satisfactorily completed at least 12 credits each semester
- They have not previously received a Contingent Award
Students who have not previously received University grant are not eligible for Contingent Awards, nor are students who are studying abroad.
The Office of Financial Assistance consults directly with the academic advising
offices at the Schools and Colleges in considering students for Contingent
Aid.
The Office of Financial Assistance does not make academic decisions. If circumstances warrant, we will request the cooperation and assistance of your academic dean. Support for Contingent Awards should be provided only if there is evidence that the student has the ability and commitment to meet the academic standards for financial aid eligibility.

All students receiving Contingent Awards will be reviewed at the end of the fall semester. Aid will not be renewed for the spring semester unless the student fully meets the minimum standard during the fall semester of a 2.30 semester grade point index (GPI) and successfully completes 12 credits with no Incomplete (I) or missing grades.
