Verification and Confirmation for Incoming Applicants

Boston University financial aid awards are offered to incoming students on a tentative basis, pending BU confirmation of family income and other information you reported on your financial aid applications.

In addition, students offered federal financial aid may be selected by the US Department of Education for federal verification. If so, certain documents may be required to verify eligibility for federal aid.

You must take certain action steps to get your financial aid (BU and federal, if applicable) award to post as a credit on your Student Account.

  • If you are admitted to start in January 2018, and are not in the College of General Studies Boston-London Program, submit a signed (even if e-signed) copy of your parents’ 2015 federal income tax return as submitted to the IRS (including all schedules) and copies of all your parents’ 2015 W-2 forms.  In addition, submit a signed (even if e-signed) copy of your 2015 federal income tax return as submitted to the IRS (including all schedules). Additional documents may also be required. Contact BU Financial Assistance to be sure no required documents are missing.
  • If you are admitted to start in September 2018 we encourage you to see what specific items are needed to verify and finalize your award offer via the Student Link. If no items are listed on the Student Link, no action steps on your part will be required and your financial aid award will be finalized and posted to your Student Account.
