In order to increase our effectiveness in Washington, the University’s federal activities must be managed and coordinated through Federal Relations.
- Federal Relations is the only department on campus authorized to enter into contracts, agreements, or partnerships that involve lobbying at the federal level, and campus units should not retain outside firms for any BU work.
- The office should also be kept apprised of meetings, communications, and events with federal agencies or White House officials and members of Congress.
- Federal Relations also has responsibility for reporting all BU lobbying activities, as required by federal law, and therefore must be aware of any initiatives we conduct in Washington or any plans to honor federal officials.
- Please note that federal law prohibits anyone at the University from providing anything of value to federal officials, including items such as meals or athletic tickets.
